Approximation Algorithms for the Two-Machine Flow Shop No-Wait Scheduling with a Non-Availability Interval

We study the two-machine flow shop scheduling problem with no-wait in process, in which one of the machines is not available during a given time interval. The objective is to minimize the makespan. The problem is known to be NP-hard, and in the case of several non-availability intervals is not approximable within a constant factor. We consider all possible scenarios of handling the operation affected by the non-availability interval. For all these scenarios, we present approximation algorithms with a worst-case ratio of 3/2. For the resumable scenario, we give a 4/3-approximation algorithm.
